Regarding Shadow Stepping skills. - Guild Wars Forums

I wonder if this is the right place for this question....

I have been doing cartographer for the three campaigns and have finished two and am at 98.3% for Elona. I have noticed that the shadow stepping skills like viper defense do not work 80% of the time when trying it out on some places. Places which I have succeed into going to are the training area for fraction tutorial island (Monastery Overlook I think) and the Eredon Terrace. All other places that was stated in many of the sites only got me zoned in when I tried using shadow stepping.

I have tried to look for answers everywhere but no where does it say that the skills were nerfed.

So my question is:

1) Were the skills nerfed?

2) Do anyone have any tips on how really to do it right if they were not?
(I have tried all the suggested ways of using the skills and many of my own but I still ended up zoning instead of stepping through.)

There skills are not nerfed. Use heart of shadow not vipers defense because it shadow steps a greater distance. How the portals works is that if you step into a certain box, then you trigger the portal - so you must shadow step past the box to avoid triggering it. The box for each portal is different, so you must try at each one.

Take a hero, and flag it closer and closer to the portal, it will teleport to you once it touches the box, so from that you can tell where the box starts.

I have done all that, flagging heroes and such. I also use heart of shadow. I have both equipped to test them both. What I noticed is that when I used hos, and landed on the other side, there is a split second that of which I succeed only to get zoned right after. I tried every way while out of imperial sanctum one weekend, burning the whole afternoon away trying many different ways, different angles as well.

Right now, in Elona, I have successfully used Recall to get into Sunspear Sanctuary from Marga Coast and Necrotic Traversal to get on the corsair ships in the Chahbek Village mission. Nothing with HOS worked so far.

Use heroes with an Strike As One chain. I've gained litteraly an extra 5% in Elona, Factions and EOTN by doing this. I had Elona max cartho when I still had 1.5 areas fully covered. (Which, believe me, is ALOT)

You go in with 3 heroes: 2 Rangers with Strike as One, QZ and Charm Animal. (Maybe even Serpent's for when QZ gets messed up) Then you add an assasin with Recall and HoS. You yourself only need recall on your bar.

You flag your Ranger heroes next to the portal and you start using strike as one on your heroes. Eventually, the pets "glitch" and they stop moving from wherever they land with SaO.

Then you simply keep SaO'ing one pet to the other one (you step to whichever is furthest), and eventually, you can get a pet a whole aggrobubble into the portal.

Flag your assassin to the edge of the portal, and make him use recall on the pet. You recall the assassin hero. Then you flag him all the way back (Away from the portal) and when he's far enough, you flag him on a visual point (so from your main screen) way past the pets. (through the portal)

Dismiss his recall, and he should step over to the other side and continue running. You just dismiss your recall and happy exploring.

There is about +-0.5% to explore in nearly every EOTN portal *due to the dungeons* and about the same for NF.

I have yet to try the SaO way because the explanation was rather confusing to me. But thanks, Killed for the step by step. Will be trying this out with the heroes and see how far I can get!

I've read several threads to where people have had an issue with finishing off Elona cartographer, and needed to use (or try using) shadow stepping tricks.

From my experience, Elona was by far the easiest to max at 100%. I never used any tricks. What its worth to you..i dont know.. but you dont need to do any shadow stepping to finish Elona.

Elona is not that easy for me. Tyria was the one that was the easiest. I have still some area unmapped there and was done with Tyria. Cantha was the hardest for me, especially the last .2%. Right now, I am trying shadow stepping because I am hoping that I do not have to finish the game to continue the Carto title because I am already so close to finishing it.

You could always just post your map and have someone diagnose where to go.

SaO is what u have to use in stead shadow-steps

need 3 heros...and recall...all need a pet with SaO to target the other pets...so leap frog the other pets then disable recall...gotta find a list of areas though

Yes, Lithril, I realized seems like only SaO works. Viper and Heart do not work much.

Thanks, Galderyn, for the video. I have the portal page too and have been using that. It is very good.

Actually, IronSheik, I have already completed the title by the middle of my last post. And before I did, I knew exactly what I was missing. So there was no need for me to post the map and bother you guys. I am just very interested in getting into the places I can't get in. I like to explore the places especially if there are end of the world instances. Plus, I just really think there should be some more information about shadow stepping because those I did find didn't do all they said would do.

But now at least I know SaO works but Viper and Heart may not.

I was able to get 100% elona without needing to open any of the gates in the stupid pac-man minigame! My non-elonians may have to open them, but I'm glad I got it at least on one of my characters.
